Betrayed (Rockfort Security) by Rebecca York
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I've read other works by Rebecca York and I am a fan of her writing style but unfortunately that was not enough to make me truly enjoy this book. "Betrayed" starts out with a lot of action and promise but it turned out to be just an okay read.
I tried to get invested into the characters of Elena & Shane but they never showed any growth. The author goes to great links to constantly remind us of the fact Elena is supposed to be a smart driven woman who was taught how to keep her head down and avoid trouble but yet she never does.
And from the very beginning Elena & Shane never really trust one another but that doesn't stop them from falling into bed together nor from magically ending up in love.
The book had potential and is still a decent read but one that seems to follow a step by step guide for creating a mystery/romance novel.
During the actions scenes the story seemed to be more compelling but when it segued into the mystery or romance parts it left me unimpressed and wanting to skip a head.
After taking a much needed break from the book I finished reading and identified that one of my problems with this story was that there really was no mystery or suspense to it. "Betrayed" has all the right ingredients to be a really good book, but the way the are used leaves it feeling like just an okay and anticlimactic read.
*NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

There is a spy in S&D systems who is leaking top-secret information that could lead to extreme distaster. It's up to Shane Gallagher to uncover the mole and set things right.
Systems analyst Elena Reyes had no intention of stealing company secrets until her brother's life was threatened by the cruelest of mobsters. When Elena finally confesses her deeds to Shane, he's ready to do everything he can to keep her out of danger. But will Shane's help be enough to protect them, or will his good intentions leave them all for dead?
