“What? Are you going to teach me some manners?” Yeah, I’ve got a bad attitude. I’m the personal chauffeur of a pampered, rabid rat posing as a dog, Mom’s going on yet another trip, and I’m supposed to play nice with the new man of the house. When I dig under the couch to catch the nasty mutt, I feel him staring at me. An argument over the damn mutt has me walking away smug, until the man of the house decides to teach me a lesson: “It’s rude to walk away from a conversation.”

I don’t know why, but the words pop out without the permission of my brain first. “Mom’s cheating on you.” My dead-serious statement comes without a hint of mercy. He’s her chew toy in a way, and I figure that makes us even. Straightening my back, I own my words with squared shoulders, resting bitch face and maybe an evil hint of satisfaction.
Steely eyes capture mine in a way that leaves me feeling violated. “I know.”
The words are thrust like a dagger and I know I’m way out of my depths here. Something in his stance, the quiet power of him reminds me of the eye of the storm, those few seconds of peace before all you know is leveled and devastated.

Seriously though, this has to be my favorite Alexia Stark story to date.... The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it left me wishing it was longer.
