My feelings towards this book are murky. If "The Vampire's Wolf" is meant to be a stand alone novel then I find it disappointing but if this is merely the beginning of a series than I kind of like it....
The story starts off pretty interesting but things take a dive when the attraction between the main character's is introduced. There was no real tension or temptation between the characters. It was more along the lines of "Werewolf meets Vamp-Girl but doesn't trust or like her kind so he says he is going to resist the attraction but doesn't even try.
I'm an avid reader of the romance genre so maybe that has made me jaded or bias but their relationship felt like a straight line with no real bumps in the road. Yes there are "action" scenes that take place but they are over in a heartbeat so I had no doubts about how their relationship would end.
Its quite possible that this wouldn't have annoyed me that much if it wasn't for the fact that Mac gets it in his mind that he is now somehow responsible for Brianna and starts neglecting Johnny.
"Mac recognized with increasing chagrin that Brianna Vittori was very good at making people feel responsible for her, even if they were complete strangers."
This is something that I don't find endearing in any character.
The redeeming factor about this book is Jenna Kernan does have an interesting perspective on the Vampire mythology and I would actually like to see more from this world. This story leaves a lot of things up in the air at the end so I really hope that this is just the beginning because minus the romantic aspects of this story I am interested in finding out what happens to Brianna, Mac & Johnny.
